Background-
The late 19th and early 20th centuries saw a significant interest in and revival of earlier European decorative styles, including the Baroque and Rococo. This was driven by a nostalgia for perceived periods of high artistic achievement and craftsmanship.
Rococo style was characterized as a highly decorative & elaborate design movement. It was known for the flowing curves, asymmetrical scrolls & naturalistic foliage.
The top crest includes dynamic flourishes with shells & foliage details. Ornate gilt frames were popular for displaying paintings, mirrors, and photographs in homes and public buildings, reflecting a taste for elaborate and visually rich interiors.
Rococo frames & mirrors are more playful & airy compared to the more sophisticated periods.
