Background-

This Caucasian Tribal Carpet features  a central field dominated by a series of large, interconnected diamond or lozenge-shaped medallions arranged vertically down the length of the rug. These medallions often contain intricate geometric patterns within them.

The layout features a series of connected diamond medallions within a long field, a common hallmark of tribal Caucasian rugs & runners, particularly those from Shivran & Kazakh regions. The 'running medallion' pattern - repeating diamond or hexagonal motifs outlines in strong red suggests influence from Karachov or Lesghi design groups. The intricate border motifs & use of secondary geometric in the main fields are consistent with older tribal designs.

The bold use of red, navy blue, ivory, & earth tones with the geometric patterns fits the south Caucasian nomadic weaving.

The stepped edges of the diamonds & alternating square rosettes of the border are a signature of some Karachov Kazakh rugs and runners.
