The Russian Emperor Alexander II, 29th of April 1818 - 13th of March 1881 ruled from 1855 until his assassination in 1881. He was the emperor of Russia, King of Poland, & Grand Duke of Finland. He was a great historical figure, his great reforms rank in importance with those of Peter the Great & Vladimir Lenin. The Tsar's Place in history- a substantial one - is almost due entirely to his position as the absolute ruler of a vast empire at a critical stage of its development.
The pair of mirror are highly ornate & regal pieces, they exhibit the hallmarks of the Baroque style, particularly in the Louis XIV French tradition. Rich Gilded wood, architectural elements, bold symmetry, heavy ornamentation are highly characteristic of this period.
