Background:
The rounded high back is designed with a gentle slope to offer partial support, typical for a chaise lounge intended for leisure, reading or lounging.
This elegant chaise lounge, or reclamier, is a beautiful representation of the Rococo Revival style, drawing heavily from the graceful, asymmetrical curves and naturalistic ornamentation of the 18th-century French Louis XV period. Key features include the elaborately carved open framework of the backrest and apron, often featuring scrolled acanthus leaves, floral motifs, and "C" or "S" scrolls. The cabriole legs, typically ending in scrolled feet and sometimes equipped with casters, contribute to the piece's fluidity. Unlike the giltwood pieces that highlight opulence, the natural wood finish here emphasizes the intricate carving and the inherent beauty of the wood. Chaise lounges were designed for luxurious relaxation and reclining, making them a sophisticated addition to drawing rooms, boudoirs, or studies.
