Background:

The table features inlay decoration with classical motifs, often found in Louis XVI furniture. Tapered, fluted legs with turned brass collars or mounts- Hallmarks of Neoclassicism. The oval or demi-lune shape of the top is elegant and typical of french-inspired formal furniture. This table is a fine example of the Louis XVI style, characterized by its elegant neoclassical design. It features a rectangular or oval top with straight, often tapered and fluted legs, which are typical of this period. The most striking element is the intricate marquetry work on the frieze (the apron below the tabletop), which involves inlaying different colored woods to create decorative patterns, often floral garlands, classical motifs, or geometric designs. Gilt bronze or brass mounts are used as decorative accents, such as the collars on the legs, the banding around the top, and the central finial on the stretcher. Made from satinwood with contrasting wood inlays (such as boxwood or tulip wood) with Ormolu and brass mounts and fittings. These tables were typically used as occasional tables in drawing rooms or parlors, serving as a surface for lamps, books, or decorative objects, embodying the refined taste and symmetry of the Louis XVI era.
